About Garden Grove California
Garden Grove, a city in Orange County, California, was founded in 1874 by Alonzo Cook. Until the railroad arrived in 1905 Garden Grove was just a small rural crossroad. With rail access, the town prospered with agriculture including oranges, walnuts, pepper, and later on strawberries. Following World War II Garden Grove developed at a quick pace and became incorporated in 1956. Every Memorial Day weekend Garden Grove hosts the Garden Grove Strawberry Festival. The festival first began in 1958 and is a celebration of the city’s agricultural history.
